When people talk about visiting Canada, they usually mention places like Banff, Vancouver, or Toronto. But there’s one province that’s quietly calling my name: Yukon. Tucked away in the northwestern corner of the country, Yukon is wild, remote, and full of untouched beauty—and it’s the one place I’m dying to visit.
🌲 Nature Like Nowhere Else
Yukon is a dream for anyone who loves nature and solitude. It’s where you can hike through endless forests, witness the Northern Lights in their full glory, and maybe not see another soul for hours. I imagine standing under a sky bursting with stars in Tombstone Territorial Park, or taking a road trip down the Dempster Highway with mountains on all sides and adventure around every bend.
🍹 The Sourtoe Cocktail – Yes, It Has a Real Toe
Here’s the quirky part—and one of the main reasons I want to visit: the Sourtoe Cocktail. It’s a legendary Yukon rite of passage served at the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City. The drink itself is just a regular shot (usually whiskey), but it comes with a twist: a real, dehydrated human toe is dropped into the glass.
The rule is simple:
“You can drink it fast, you can drink it slow—but your lips have gotta touch the toe.”
I know it sounds crazy, but there’s something about it that captures the wild spirit of Yukon. It’s bizarre, it’s bold, and it’s unforgettable—just like the territory itself.
✨ Why Yukon?
Because it’s not like anywhere else. It’s not overrun with tourists. It feels raw, real, and totally off the beaten path. From gold rush history in Dawson City to dog sledding in Whitehorse, Yukon promises a kind of adventure that feels truly Canadian—and completely unique.
One day, I’ll make it there. And when I do, I’ll raise my Sourtoe shot and toast to the thrill of discovering the places most people overlook.
